ETSI Graduation 2025On June 4, 2025 the Graduation Ceremony of the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative’s 6-Year Implementation Program was held at the Drepung Losiling Monastery in the presence of His Eminence Gadan Tri-Rinpoche.

Candidates of Sera Jey Monastic Institute who could not attend the ETSI Graduation Ceremony in person, Sera Jey Science Centre organized a brief ceremony at the Science Auditorium on 12 June 2025. Venerable Geshe Yeshe Phuntsok, Disciplinarian and Geshe Ngawang Nyingje, Administrator and Geshe Jampa Choewang, Director of Modern Education Deptt. honoured the occasion and presented the 6-Year Implementation Program of ETSI-Emory University’s Completion and Participation Certificates to the monastic science graduates. The faculty and staffs and coordinators were also presented with appreciation certificates and traditional scarves (Khatak).

The accomplishments and the event honours our gratitude to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's kindness, and His 90th Birthday - Ghoton- Year of Compassion. The ceremony successfully concluded with the appreciations to ETSI community and the faculty, staffs of Sera Jey Science Centre, of the past & present, and heartfelt Congratulations to the science graduates.

Lecture at TU 2July2025On 2nd July 2025, Ven. Thupten Kalden, faculty member at Sera Jey English Translation department, presented a lecture on “Buddhist Perspective in Positive Psychology” to 1st & 2nd year M.Sc. Psychology students of Department of Studies and Research in Psychology, Tumkur University. He also gave a talk on Buddhist meditation, and answered questions from the students on the lecture. Geshe Jampa Choewang, Director of Sera Jey Modern Education Department also addressed the class gathering.
The event was part of our programs under the MoU between the two institutes.

Inaug Summer School 8July2025The fourth Sera Jey International Summer School, was inaugurated on 8 July 2025. The summer school is part of Sera Jey International Online School’s program, intended for the young children from different Tibetan diaspora, to have a practical experience of learning Tibetan language, Buddhism, music and culture with fellow children. The ceremony was inaugurated by Sera Jey Monastery’s Disciplinarian, with Mr. Choephel Thupten, as the Guest of Honour.

The online school provides coaching in Tibetan language, Buddhism & Music, and also English, Chinese language & Mathematics specifically for children of Tibetan diaspora where they have no or limited interaction with Tibetan culture.

4th Intl Summer School activity 2025In the first ten days at the ongoing 4th Summer International School School 2025 at Sera Jey Tashi Choeling Centre, young children learn Tibetan language, Buddhist values, culture & music. On Lhakar Wednesday, 16 June 2025, the participant children with teachers & staffs made a tour visit to Namdroling Monastery. In celebration of His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th Birthday, the children, teachers & staff visited the local village school and distributed sweets, fruits, books & clothes to the village school children.

IDEA College visit July2025Fourteen students & one faculty from IDEA, Institute of Design Education and Architectural Studies, Nagpur, made an educational tour visit to Sera Jey Monastic Institute for three days from 19 - 22 July 2025. The Modern Education Department of our monastic institute organized programs as, Meditation, Introduction to Buddhism, monastic study curriculum, methods of learning and Tibetan Buddhist culture & art.

SJ Intl summer camp tour visit to SJM 20July2025The participant children of the 4th Sera Jey International Summer Camp 2025 along with the visiting group of students from IDEA, Institute of Design Education and Architectural Studies, Nagpur, who are on a study tour, made a tour visit at the monastery’s morning debate session, the main prayer hall and audience with the Abbot, on 20th July 2025. The Abbot addressed the group with a brief words of wisdom and advice.

SJ Intl Summer Camp Closing 31Jul2025The fourth Sera Jey International Summer School 2025 was concluded on 31 July 2025. A warm closing ceremony was held at the venue’s auditorium, graced by the monastery’s Abbot, with the Representative of Lugsam Tibetan Settlement, Bylakuppe, as the Guest hof Honor. The participant children presented their newly learned Tibetan opera dance, folk dance, songs and Tibetan flute music before the gathering. Certificate of Participation was presented to the children and to the teachers & staffs.

celebrating 90th birthday of hh at DVKCentre for the Study of World Religions, CSWR, of Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bangalore, organized the event, Celebrating The Legacy of His Holiness The Dalai: 90 Years of Compassion, to commemorate His Holiness 90th Birth Anniversary. The Chief Representative of South Zone Tibetan Settlement in India was the Chief Guest, Sera Jey Monastery’s Director of Modern Education Department represented the monastery along with the group of monks.

Lecture visit at DVK Jul Aug2025Under the organization of Sera Jey Modern Education Department, pupil monks from the English Translation Department were invited by Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, DVK, Bangalore, for discourse on Buddhist philosophy & studies to their BA students, between 21 July - 8 August 2025. The topics of the lecture were The Four Noble Truths, The seven point Mind Training, The Noble Eight Fold Paths, Twelve Links of Dependent Origination, The Dharma Wheel, Meditation for Beginners, Guided Meditation, Mindfulness Meditation, The six perfections.

    His Eminence Geshe Lobsang Tsering, the 70th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery, was born in Tibet in 1923. He was ordained at the age of five and started his Buddhist philosophical studies at twelve. At the age of seventeen, he joined Sera Jey Monastery and underwent rigorous philosophical studies. He served as a philosophy teacher at his native monastery for three years. In 1959 he was imprisoned by Chinese authorities for seven years and had to undergo extreme hardship. In 1969, he fled Tibet under immense hardship, to India for exile.  At Sera Jey Monastery in South India, he earned the first position in his Geshe Lharampa Examination in 1978.  In 1986, he was enthroned the 70th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery and made several developments in both spiritual and administrative fields. He devoted his entire life to teaching the Buddhist philosophy to scores of aspiring students.

    71st Khensur Jampa Theckchok 

    His Eminence Jampa Thekchok, the 71st abbot of Sera jey Monastery was born in Phenpo, Tibet in 1930. He was ordained at the age of eight and began his study of major Buddhist texts around the age of ten. His eminence arrived in exile in 1959 and continued his studies in major Buddhist texts. He taught Buddhist studies at Central University of Tibetan Studies, Sarnath, for seven years and travelled aboard to give teachings. In 1993, he was enthroned as the abbot of Sera Jey Monastery and he served the monastery in great length in both spiritual and administrative fields.

    72nd Khensur Lobsang Dhonyoe 

    His Eminence Jetsun Lobsang Donyo, the 72nd abbot of Sera Jey monastery, was born in 1925. At the age of nine, he joined Lhatse monastery, gained basic Tibetan education and memorized all traditional monastic scriptures and studied basic Buddhist epistemology. At the age of nineteen, he joined Sera Jey Monastic University and studied all major Buddhist texts.

    In 1961, he left Tibet to take exile in India and continued his study at Buxar in north India. He has served as proof-reader at monastery’s printing office. In 1967, he studied at Central University for Tibetan studies, Sarnath and received the Acharya degree.
    In 1999, he was enthroned the 72nd abbot of Sera Jey Monastery and made great contribution to both spiritual and temporal affairs.

    73rd Khensur Lobsang Palden 

    His eminence Jetsun Lobsang Palden, the 73rd abbot of Sera Jey Monastic University, was born in 1936. At the age of twelve, he joined Dhargye Monastic School and memorized all traditional monastic scriptures as well as studied basic Buddhist epistemology and other texts.

    At the age of seventeen, he joined Sera Jey Monastery and studied all major Buddhist texts. In 1959, he fled to India and continued his studies at Buxar in north India. In 1965, he studied at Central University for Tibetan studies, Varanasi, and received the Acharya degree.
    In 2005, he was enthroned as the 73rd abbot of Sera Jey Monastic University and made great contribution to both spiritual and administrative fields. Moreover, he devoted most of his time to give teachings and oral transmissions on Buddhist scriptural resources to scores of pupil monks.

    74th Khensur Lobsang Delek 

    His Eminence Jetsun Lobsang Delek, the 74th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery, was born in 1939 at Karze district in Tibet. At the age of seven, he joined Karze Monastery and started memorizing traditional monastic scriptures. His given name is Lobsang Delek and received ordained name as Ngawang Soepa while he was newly ordained at age of seventeen. In 1959, he fled to India and continued his Buddhist philosophical studies at Buxar in north India. In 1968, he received the full-ordained vows from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 1982, he was honored with first position of Lharam Geshe degree. Moreover, in 2005, he was enthroned as the abbot of Gudme Tantric Monastery, and he became the 75th Sera Jey Abbot on 6 May 2012. Generally, he devotes his precious regular time in giving teaching and conferring different initiations and oral transmissions.

    75th Khensur Gedun Choephel 

    His Eminence Jetsun Gedun Choephel, 75th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery, was born in 1941 at at his native Kartze province in Eastern Tibet and was initiated at the age of 8 in his native Kartze monastery. He joined Sera Jey Monastery – Tibet in 1955. In 1969 left Tibet for India and was among the foremost member monks to re-establish the monastery at exile in South India. He has received the highest monastic scholastic award of Lharam Geshe – Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy, and has dedicated his entire life to teachings at the monastery. He was enthroned the 75th abbot of Sera Jey Monastery on 18th July 2016.
