Chotrul Duschen, it is the first Full Moon of a new year, considered a very auspicious day for offering prayers , maintaining/performing good thoughts & deeds, also marking the 15th & concluding day of Tibetan Lorsa (New Year) celebration. Special mass prayers are performed at Sera Thekchenling Lachi. On this auspicious day, lay devotees visit monasteries to make offerings. In the evening, the Choenga Choepa (the grand butter sculptered Thorma) is brought out for devotees to offer scarves and prayers.
This Chotrul Duschen for the year 2024, falls on 24 Fe2024.
Lorsa Tibetan New Year Ceremony

Lorsa, Tibetan New Year is celebrated on the 1st day of 1st Tibetan Calendar month. This Lorsa falls on 10th February 2024. There will be traditional monastic Lorsa ceremony early in the morning at the main Prayer Hall, attended by all – abbot, former abbots, Tulkus, Geshes and monks besides department heads, with prayer offerings and serving of sweet rice / tea and cookies.

Guthor, the traditional Tibetan Buddhist Culture performed at the year-end with a strong belief to remove all ills & adversities for the coming new year. It is characterized by performing specific puja and ritual ceremonies for three consecutive days 27th – 29th of the 12th Tibetan calendar month. A specially constructed flour & butter sculpture – dGu-thor Torma is ultimately incinerated on conclusion of the rituals on the 29th Day of the year’s concluding month, marking the destruction of all ills and adversities for the coming new year.
This Guthor Ceremony falls on 9th February 2023.

Tamdin Phurjel, the sacred relic of Hayagriva Ritual Dagger is brought out from confined retreat once in a year on the 27th day of 12th Tibetan calendar month to bless sentient beings, usher harmony and prosperity. Devotees congregate to the monastery to receive the blessing of Tamdin Phurba (Hayagriva Ritual Dagger) on this auspicious day. This Phurjel Ceremony falls on 7 February 2024.
